The 21st Century: Era of Environmental Challenges

‚h‚r‚n”FØ

CIPS acquired ISO 14001 certification as early as February 23, 1999, as Itochu Subsidiary company (certified by the Japan Audit and Certification Organization for Environment and Quality (JACO)). The scope of certification covers a total of nine business sites: the Tokyo head office, Osaka branch, and all other branch offices, sales offices in Japan. The 21st century is often referred to as the era of environmental challenges, and addressing environmental issues has become a top priority management issue at companies. In addition to conducting business, companies must also take social responsibility for the environmental impact caused by their business activities, by working to undertake environmentally friendly operations that reduce that impact.

CIPS is carrying out its business activities from the perspective of environmental conservation. An environmental management system was created in accordance with the requirements of the international environmental standard, ISO 14001, and the environmental awareness of all executives and employees raised. As CIPS is not engaged in the manufacture of the final product, business activities that directly impact the environment are limited. However, improper use and disposal of the chemical products it handles can lead to environmental pollution. Therefore, CIPS is committed to accurately comprehending the relevant laws and regulations and creating systems for total regulatory compliance, and thus, indirectly reduce environmental impact.

CIPS prioritizes regulatory compliance as one aspect of its environmental conservation activities.

Early introduction of CIPS original eco action points system

A well known system that enables consumers to accumulate eco action points is that introduced by the Japanese government in 2008 to promote the use of environmentally friendly home appliances. CIPS, however, had already created its own eco action point based environmental management system in 2005 for the products it handles, and voluntary sets targets for its activities. In addition to energy and resource conservation activities, CIPS is also engaged in the development and research of products that are recyclable and promote environmental conservation, in order to help create a recycling-oriented society.

Action to realize the CIPS vision of sustainability

In 2010, CIPS received commendation for its ten consecutive years of ISO 14001 certification. Encouraged by this, CIPS will set higher goals for the future and continue to take action.
